15 Pounds Just By Eating Right

June 22nd, 2008 by orelrhew

By Chris Shuttleworth In the beginning I was unsure this would work, but I kept at it and low and behold the pounds came off. It seems just eating whole foods makes you lose weight. It makes you wonder what is all that crap in the grocery aisle there for. Anything processed is going to make fat. And you can eat 6-7 small meals a day of whole foods and still only consume 1/2 of the calories you get from fast food. By whole foods I mean boneless chicken breasts, white meat turkey, lean red meat, brown rice rice and all vegetables. I even cheat on saturdays and eat what I want including hamburgers, mexican food, chinese and steak. But then I get back on track and eat nothing but good old whole fresh foods. I’m going to start the cardio and weight training part now after 6 weeks into this. At least I know how to eat right already. I figure it’s going to take about 6 more weeks to get where I need to be weight wise, and alot of hard work. but you know what they say , no pain no gain! I hope this will change my outlook on life as I’m getting older now(44) and so far so good. I’m already feeling better every day. My friends are all asking what I’m doing and I just say eating myself thin. For real if you just eat whole good foods you will lose weight, I promise you that! So give it a try, I think you will find yourself alot fuller and alot slimmer! Sun Smarts: How to Safeguard Your Skin This Summer

June 15th, 2008 by orelrhew

By Tara Mattarazzo Like many abusive relationships, Americas love affair with the sun is littered with the wrecks of romantic images. From Coco Chanels Deauville glow to Farah Fawcetts sun-kissed skin, bronzed beauty was de rigueur for generationsuntil scientists in the 1980s exposed it as a destructive trend with irreversible, DNA-altering effects. Photodamage and skin cancer can, in part, be attributed to the belief that tans are fashionable, says Dr. Andrea Lynn Cambio, a New Yorkbased dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Equally insidious is the notion that having a tan is being healthy, notes Dr. Alison Ehrlich, director of clinical research and assistant dermatology professor at George Washington University. The fact is, a healthy glow is anything but; its the visible manifestation of skin damage. Light Trap Today some Americans are still lost in a tan warp, but most are aware of the suns dangers, including burning, premature aging, and skin cancer. Sunscreen sales are at an all-time high, but so too are rates of UV-related illnesses. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year. The depleting ozone layer, earlier detection, and the aging population have all been cited as factors, but many dermatologists believe the greatest culprit is human behaviorthe fact that people arent adequately protecting themselves. Many people believe the myth that sunscreen allows them to stay outside all day without accumulating sun damage, says Dr. Susan Sweeney, fellow of pediatric dermatology and dermatologic surgery at UMass Memorial Health Center. Although its important to wear sunscreen, she also stresses that these products offer just one layer of defense. Moreoverand contrary to whats often printed on product labelsdermatologists emphasize that theres no such thing as sunblock. And similarly, no sunscreen is capable of guaranteeing all-day protection; even a sweat- or water-resistant formula must be applied repeatedly over the course of the day. Equally unsettling is the fact that most people select a sunscreen based solely on its SPF (sun-protection factor)a number that only tells part of the story. According to Sweeney, SPF refers only to protection from UVB light (the wavelengths that are primarily responsible for sunburn). Although scientists once believed that UVB was the sole wavelength to blame for long-term skin damage, studies have now shown that UVA is also a dangerous carcinogen. Saving Your Skin Theres no safe haven from the sun (even daylight in indoor spaces can be harmful). But with a little diligence and a preventative plan, you can take significant steps toward safeguarding your skin. Broaden your horizons: Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with both UVB and UVA protection, an SPF of 15 or higher, and ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which scatter and absorb UV light, Cambio suggests. According to Sweeney, sunscreens that contain avobenzone (Parsol 1789), such as Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30, may also be helpful in protecting against UVA rays. An ounce of prevention: All too often, people dont apply enough sunscreen for the product to be effective, or they opt to spot-protect just their faces or shoulders. Sweeney recommends using at least a full ounce of sunscreen to cover the entire body. Make it a habit: Many people remember to wear sunscreen at the beach, but they should be wearing it every day, says Sweeney. For best results, incorporate it into your morning routine. Over and over: Because sunscreen loses its efficacy throughout the day, it must be smeared on again and again. Apply it 30 minutes prior to exposure, then reapply every two to four hours, says Ehrlich. Run for cover: Clothing, hats, and sunglasses are potential lifesavers outdoors, Ehrlich explains. If youll be outside for an extended period of time, Cambio suggests seeking out shady areas. Watch the clock: The best way to screen out the sun is to circumvent it, especially during peak exposure times (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). When possible, Cambio recommends avoiding the midday sun. Safer Screening Today’s sunscreens are giving women what they wantgreaseless, broad-spectrum protection in clever, convenient packages. In some cases, theyre even doing double duty as moisturizer, foundation, or lip gloss. For lightweight, full-body coverage, try Phytomer OgnAge Protective Anti-Aging Cream Sunscreen SPF 30, Hampton Sun SPF 30 Lotion, or Clinique UV Response Cream SPF 50. For faces, look for vitamin-rich formulas that moisturize and protect, such as Cellex-C Sun Care SPF 30, MD Formulations Total Protector SPF 30, or Clinique Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 40. To protect the delicate skin around the eyes, try a specially formulated sunscreen such as Carita Paris Eye Control Suncare SPF 15 or Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour Care; for lips, BeneFit and Kiehls each offer SPF moisturizing lip balms in sheer and tinted formulas. And for a safe sun-kissed look, self-tanners such as Biotherm Sunfitness Protective Self-Tanner Tinted Cream SPF 15 impart an instant-gratification glow, while DuWop Revolution Tinted Body Moisturizer with Shimmer SPF 15 offers both UV protection and a hint of sparkle. Introducing White Tea

June 7th, 2008 by orelrhew

By Jay Wang Even though tea has been enjoyed for about 5000 years since its serendipitous discovery by Chinese Emperor and Divine Healer Shen-Nung in 2737 B.C, White tea did not come to existence until at much later time. White tea has only about 200 years of history and is the youngest among major tea types such as Green, Oolong and Black tea. According to a legend, White tea tree varietal was discovered by a girl named Lan Gu from Fuding county of Fujian Province in China where the beautiful Taimu Mountain is located. While taking refuge up in a cave in the mountain, Lan Gu found a special tea tree whose young buds are covered by silvery hair during spring. When wide spreading disease was troubling the villagers, Lan Gu used the leaves from this special tea tree to help cure them. For her kindness and courage, people honored her with the name of Mother Taimu and named the mountain Taimu Mountain. This legend parallels the same divine healing spirit of tea discovery by Shen-Nung, only more than 2000 years later. According to the history, White tea was first produced in Fuding in 1796 and later spread to two other counties (Zhenhe and Jianyang) in Fujian. There are three different cultivars of White tea tree Big White, Narcissus White and Vegetable White with the Big White as the finest and most popular. There are also three different types of White tea based on different ways of plucking Silver Needle (only one bud is plucked), White Peony (one bud together with one leave down) and Longevity Eyebrow (one bud with two to three leaves down). Silver Needle is also known as its original Chinese name Bai Hao Yin zhen and is the most precious and exotic. White tea is the least processed among all types of teas. The process only consists of two steps. The leaves are withered and then dried. During the process, there is light oxidation occurring. White tea brews to a pale yellow color and has a slightly sweet flavor. White tea is also called a lightly fermented tea positioning itself between the unfermented Green and semi-fermented Oolong tea.Due to the minimal processing, White tea preserves most natural compounds and potentially has the most health benefits. In 2002, a research paper by Oregon State University scholar Roderick H. Dashwood published in Foods and Food Ingredients Journal of Japan White Tea A New Cancer Inhibitor provides insight into the anticancer and anti-mutagenic properties of White Tea. In 2004, at the 104th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology,Researchers at Pace University presented their finding that White Tea Extract (WTE) may have prophylactic applications in retarding growth of bacteria that cause Staphylococcus infections, Streptococcus infections, pneumonia and dental caries. They also found that the anti-viral and anti-bacterial effect of white tea might be greater than that of green tea. Recently, White tea has found itself used in anti-aging skin care and beauty products. In addition, several companies started marketing White tea flavored Ready to Drink (RTD) bottled beverages. White tea is most exotic and rare due to the rare White tea tree varietals and short harvest time (high grade Silver Needle is only made from the youngest bugs plucked during only a couple of days of spring). If you find the price for White tea is generally higher than that of Green and Oolong teas, you now know why. White tea could be the tea of the future with its legendary spirit, exotic nature and wide applications of health benefits. How To Save Money On Common Beauty Treatments By Doing Them At Home

June 1st, 2008 by orelrhew

By Gregg Hall Beauty is very important to the modern woman. Women go to extreme lengths to help them stay looking young and beautiful. Face peels, plastic surgery, and liposuction are becoming a popular trend. These kinds of treatments are not right for everyone. Many women choose to do things at home that are easy, non invasive, and less costly. My wife use to go to the beauty salon all the time to get these things done, but now there are so many really good products available that you can use right at home. It really is no longer necessary to spend hundreds of dollars at the beauty salon; now women can spend a fraction of that amount by purchasing their supplies at the local drug store. Plus there is a wide variety of products available at the drug store so women can find the perfect product for their skin type. Some of the tips I have learned from being around my wife all these years have really made an impact on me. She is a wonderful woman and dedicated to keeping yourself looking great, her are a few of her tips:The first thing you can do to keep you looking beautiful is eating right. With a well balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables you can stay at optimum health and keep your skin, hair, and nails looking great. Another important part of diet would be making sure you get your recommended eight to ten glasses of water a day. Water will hydrate your skin, and cleanse your body of unwanted toxins.Regular exercise is another way to help you stay young and active. Exercise will help keep you healthy and looking great. If you feel great about yourself it will show. Exercise will also help improve skin tone, digest food easier, and rid the body of unwanted toxins. Good hygiene is another easy to stay looking great. Making sure you keep your body clean and free of dead skin will help your skin look great. A shower in the morning may help you get ready for the day, while a shower in the evening may help you wash the stress of the day away and prepare you for sleep. Get out and get some sun. The sun can be harmful if you do not wear the proper protection, so make sure you protect your skin. The sun provides natural vitamins and energy for our bodies. Happiness is another important factor in beauty. If you are happy with your life than you will look more healthy and young. When you are surrounded by loved ones you will look and feel better about yourself. Do remember that you need to love yourself as well. When you are happy with who you are and your life you will have a glow about you. When you are happy it seems to boost the immune system and lengthen the life span as well. Nothing can replace the relationships you make with your friends and family. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Marketing Apathy Solutions: 10 Solutions for Overcoming Apathy Beginning Today

May 29th, 2008 by orelrhew

By Alicia Smith Are you suffering from feelings of indifference or a lack of concern when it comes to marketing your business? Do you lack the passion thats necessary to attract customers to your business? Marketing apathy, characterized by feelings of passiveness, disregard, and a lack of interest is widespread among todays businesses. This attitude is like putting a roadblock between you and your success. Fortunately, there are a number of solutions for overcoming apathy that you can start implementing today. Try one or more of these. 1. Do something. The best way to take a blah attitude and turn it around is to do something. You may have heard the phrase, an idle mind is the devils workshop. The same goes for your business. Apathy often disguises itself as procrastination lack of action. In the case of your business, an idle business can mean financial disaster. When you find yourself not wanting to do anything, do something. Pick up a book and read for a while, call a client or two and ask them how things are going, or contact your coach to get yourself moving. If you have to, get up and do jumping jacks or take a walk around the block. When you engage your physical body, its usually easier to engage the rest of you. Once you get the energy moving on your end, youll be able to take it and channel it into a number of avenues that can lead to business success. 2. Gather your support team. A support team is critical to our personal and professional well-being. A support team can consist of our friends, business colleagues, family members, a loving partner or spouse, or even groups that we belong to like business or civic groups. When we experience rough days in our business we can call on these folks for uplifting conversation, brainstorming, or just to share a friendly hello. Our support team can mean all the difference in the attitude we have in our business. Not only will you benefit from the interchange, youll give your support members the opportunity to share their gifts with you. Everyone wins. 3. Obtain more education. Often indifference about our business can find its roots in a lack of knowledge. Youve probably heard the phrase Knowledge is power. Seeking out new knowledge, whether by reading a book, taking a teleclass, or enrolling in a workshop can be a wonderful solution to curing feelings of apathy. Seeking more education can introduce us to new people and ideas, which will often be just what is needed to get our creative juices flowing. 4. Craft a clear vision. Having a clear vision of your business purpose and mission can be critical to your business success. A vision, designed exclusively by you, provides a roadmap to help you move from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow. When you dont have a clear vision about why you are in business and what purpose you are serving, its easy to go in the wrong direction. Craft a written vision of your business. It will help you stay focused and on track. 5. Read a variety of periodicals. Probably one of the best solutions to marketing apathy is to read and one suggestion is to read a variety of periodicals. Take a trip to your local bookstore. Visit the areas you most enjoy. Peruse cookbooks, business books, or spiritual books anything that catches your interest. Dont forget to visit the magazine racks, which include hundreds of publications on almost every topic imaginable. You dont necessarily need to be reading books and magazines about marketing to get ideas about new things to do with your business. Look at what other companies are doing to communicate about their products and services. You might find a creative way to adapt something to your own business. One of my favorite things to do is pick up a magazine on a topic I know nothing about and turn to the back where the smaller classified ads are listed. Its amazing how many ideas Ive been able to adapt from an industry totally unrelated to mine. 6. Hang out with new people. Look at your Rolodex or database. Do you socialize with the same kinds of people all the time? How about joining a new group - maybe one that isnt related to your business - and start meeting some new people? You may be surprised when something said would open your eyes to a new idea you can implement in your business. Better yet, youll be expanding your network and increasing your opportunities to introduce others to you and your business. 7. Take failures and turn them into successes. Everyone has experienced a failure in their marketing or in their business. But, how you choose to look at it can mean all the difference in your attitude and determines whether you are going to remain stuck or move forward. Think of a few failures youve had in the past year. How can you reframe those into positive experiences? What did you learn from those experiences that helped you to avoid further issues? Did those experiences create opportunities for you? In many cases, youll probably be able to see the good in the bad. Whenever you start feeling down about your business marketing, stop your thoughts in their tracks and ask, Where is the good in all of this? 8. Focus on the few. Sometimes we find feelings of listlessness and lethargy creeping into our marketing efforts, usually because were overwhelmed with all we have to do. We dont know where to start, we feel pressured to perform and to get something out there to attract clients, but we dont know which direction to take or which marketing technique to select. The solution to overwhelm, and the accompanying feelings of apathy, is to get focused. Select one or two marketing techniques that you feel comfortable and competent with implementing. Test them and see if you get the results you want. If you dont, then youll have great feedback to try a new way. Dont try to do everything, otherwise youll find yourself in a state of overwhelm, and doing nothing. 9. Create alliances with others. Isolation can create environments where we lack motivation and enthusiasm. And, when were trying to market our businesses, we definitely need these two ingredients! When we work with others, we can move ahead a lot more quickly and, usually, with more ease. Who can you create a partnership or alliance with? Perhaps there is a person in a competing or complimentary discipline with whom you can partner with to create a workshop, e-book, or even a teleclass. Their enthusiasm will motivate you; and your enthusiasm will motivate them. Share your talents and ideas. You never know what kind of success you can create together. 10. Recognize the value in you. Apathy can often find its roots in the attitudes we carry around about ourselves. And, the sad truth is that these often are completely false. As an aspiring entrepreneur, learn to recognize the value in you. Who you are and what you have to offer holds great value. Your gifts, talents, and your unique way of looking at the world are just what your clients are looking for! Copyright 2004 Alicia Smith Consulting & Training. All Rights Reserved. Cell Phone Reviews-A Virus? Not Them Too

May 26th, 2008 by orelrhew

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Wycliffe_Williams]Wycliffe Williams These cell phone reviews that I love to bring will sometimes cover Cabir, Skulls and Comwarrior. They sound like fighting names out of Xbox or PS3 dont they? They are a few of the viruses and worms that permeate smart phones. They can disable your cell phone, destroy your data, and generate endless spam. As unbelievable as it sounds viruses have invaded operating systems like Palm OS, Microsofts Pocket PC and Symbian. Will we ever be free of these demons that seek not only control of our gadgets but the ones that seek control of us as well? Handsets today can easily hold volumes of information. They can store your contact names and numbers, home info, work, important documents, financial info, customer info, birthdays, anniversaries, email addresses and on and on it goes. Security engineers have been so overwhelmed contending with PC challenges that they havent focused their attention at all in this area. They also felt that the initial capability of the handset was so inconsequential that there would be no threat to them. However, the emerging power, connectivity and widespread use coupled with the lack of security have left the handsets vulnerable. Businesses will undoubtedly bear the brunt of any attack. With a hacker at the controls of smart phones, Pocket PCs, RIM handsets, and Palm Pilots, untold damage can result to the data stored and the connectivity can go viral. These mobile handsets can infect the main computers causing widespread damage. Personal info can also be removed from mobile handsets and possibly sold to spammers. Thus far the first wave of worms hasnt done much. But someone is out there trying their level best to put a wrench into the cell phone works. We know it is coming, we just dont know when. I will be writing more of these types of cell phone reviews in the future. Lets be vigilant. Lets close ranks. Do not allow these people to cut you short of your cell phone fun. Army Report Validates Prediction of Vaccine-Induced Epidemic

May 14th, 2008 by orelrhew

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jerry_Leonard] Jerry Leonard “The more we do to you, the less you seem to believe we are doing it.” - Joseph Mengele The Army is still in denial but now admits the epidemic of Gulf War Syndrome II which I predicted would result from its own blatantly unethical vaccine policy (see warning here: http://www.winstonsmith.net/dontbeaguineapig_part2.htm ). The Las Vegas Sun recently reported: “More than 1,200 military personnel who received the anthrax vaccine before going to Iraq have developed serious illnesses, according to an Army report released last month, though local military officials contend the shots still are safe and necessary.” (June 16th, 2005) At least the military is now reportedly allowing service members to refuse its deadly vaccines without having their careers destroyed. According to the Sun, “Maj. Brian Blalock, public health flight commander at Nellis Air Force Base, said the anthrax shot is no longer mandatory for service members who are willing to sign a waiver releasing the military from liability.” (We’ve come a long way from the first Gulf War when recalcitrant soldiers were held down and forcibly injected with experimental vaccines.) But still touting the necessity of government vaccines, Blalock continued: “There are terrorists who are intent on using biological agents and there are countries that certainly have the capability.” Indeed there are. While the US government initially attempted to scare the public and military into taking its dangerous vaccines by blaming Iraq as the source of anthrax in terrorist attacks on the US (among other things), it has been revealed that the source of the disease is likely to be none other than the US government itself. The New York Times reported years ago that “The dry powder used in the anthrax attacks is virtually indistinguishable in critical technical respects from that produced by the United States military before it shut down its biowarfare program, according to federal scientists and a report prepared for a military contractor.” (December 3, 2001) I summarized the 2001 anthrax attack ties to the long-running vaccine experimentation program conducted by the US government in my report, subtitled: “Who Are The Real Terrorists?”. It was in this 2002 report that I asked, “Are we being set up for another Gulf War Syndrome disaster?” (www.winstonsmith.net) If the veracity of a theory is proved by its ability to predict future events, the thesis that the US government is deliberately inducing preventable epidemics through tainted vaccines is now undeniable. (For the initial predictions on Gulf War Syndrome, please see links below.) If an epidemic can be so easily started in a population captive to an institution with a long and varied history of human rights abuses in the midst of public warnings and federal rulings against vaccines known to be unsafe, how many more convenient epidemics have been quietly started by nominally humanitarian institutions (now known to be working with the military biowarfare inftrastructure and infiltrated with Nazi war criminals) using other vaccines in unsuspecting populations? And how long has this been going on? Jerry Leonard 7/3/05 p.s. If you are feeling patriotic this weekend, please consider sending this to anyone who knows a soldier and help relay the good news: thanks to the efforts of real heros like Michael Donnelly, they may no longer be required to be a lab-rat for Uncle Sam and his biological warfare infrastructure, which was built with the aid of Nazi war criminals who, immediately following the war, were turned loose to experiment on American soldiers on American soil. For previous warnings, please see: [http://www.winstonsmith.net/GWSyndromeII.htm] http://www.winstonsmith.net/GWSyndromeII.htm [http://www.winstonsmith.net/dontbeaguineapig_part2.htm] http://www.winstonsmith.net/dontbeaguineapig_part2.htm “The reason Gulf War Syndrome happened is that no one did anything about AIDS. The reason AIDS happened is that no one did anything about MKULTRA. Advice for Beginning Genealogy

May 9th, 2008 by orelrhew

By Carol Wilkerson I can tell you what prompted me to research my own genealogy. I needed to know who I was, who I came from, and where my families have lived. During my youth I wasnt particularly proud of my parents because they were alcoholics. But in the back of my mind, I just knew that not all of my ancestors would be as disappointing. Looking back, I kind of have to laugh at my first attempts. I began in earnest in about 1980. I had always loved looking at my familys pictures, and I had a great uncle who was a Mormon and he had, some time before 1980, written to my mother for more information about her spouse and siblings. That gave me the first image of what a family tree chart would look like. Jump ahead to 1994. My nephew Eric was getting married and his future mother-in-law had been doing her own genealogy for many, many years. When Carol H. asked my mom for more information on our family tree, my mother kindly pointed her my way, saying I knew a lot about it. That was an overstatement, but at the time, I knew more than the rest of the family. My luck would hold when computers became a household item and you could buy genealogical software to store your family files. I was in heaven! I have always used Family Tree Maker, although I am sure that there are many equally as good programs for genealogy. It is now 2006 and I have a good sized family file for both my Yates and Wilkerson lines, and many of their allied families. Random advice for beginners People always ask, Where do I start? Even if you have names for your other family members, begin with yourself first. If you are seriously going to research your family using a computer, get a genealogy program that you find easy to work with. It neednt cost you an arm and a leg. Look for the basic program. I would not recommend a bundle of disks (for instance, if they contain the World Family Tree disks) like FTM sells. Those family trees have been contributed by other genealogists (including myself) and the information might not be accurate. That leads me to the next bit of advice. Document your sources! If you are going to be handing your family files and pictures down to your descendants, please do them an enormous favor and prove each bit of data you cite. Let me tell a funny story in regard to that request. Three of my older cousins who lived in Missouri compiled a small book about my grandmothers family tree. One of the surnames listed was Oglethorpe and it was said they had lived in Clay, Overton and Jackson counties in Tennessee. When I took up the reigns to research this line in TN, I posted my surnames on Rootsweb www.rootsweb.com for those counties. A very nice man emailed me and told me his best friend was researching in those counties too and that he had databases of many of the families. He gave me his friends email address and I contacted this other researcher. To make a long story short, the surname turned out to be Osgatharp for my ancestors that had lived in that part of the Tennessee. I was told, and I also researched this on my own, that there were no Olgethorpes living in those counties. Period. So, I reported back to my one cousin Allene this new bit of information. I asked her where they had come up with the name Oglethorpe. She told me, That is what my mother called them! We had a little discussion about that, and I finally convinced her that the name was instead Osgatharp. That isnt where it ends though, so I will just insert here that the name is/was also Osgathorpe, and as it turns out, our ancestor Richard Osgathorpe was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War! I cant really fault my cousin completely for not having the correct name. Most people from her era and age group only had word of mouth and bible records to rely on for documentation. Label those pictures while the older generation can help you! My dad may have failed in his earlier life, but as the oldest child he could identify many of his ancestors just by looking at their pictures. He labeled each one that he could and that was so helpful. Also, you would be surprised at how many older family pictures will surface when you begin making contact with cousins through genealogy. I have a picture of my Great-great Grandfather that I thought I would never see. In my research I have found that since my branch of the family migrated more often, the older pictures of ancestors were still with families in locations where they had the family farm or stayed the longest. Dont bite the hand that feeds you! Now, here is some advice that I have for all the eager beavers who think they are in some race to get the most, first, or best information in the shortest amount of time. DO NOT contact relatives who have already done much of their own genealogical research and demand that they give you all they have on your family. That is not the way to go about it. Many people are willing to share what they have (I am one of them), but some are not, and they feel that they have spent 30, 40, or 50 years doing this research and you just want it handed over to you? I recommend that you tell them that you would be happy to share what you have, and that you would appreciate anything they would like to share with you. Believe me, it works much better that way. Job Interview Basics — Best Preparation

May 4th, 2008 by orelrhew

By Mark Baber Thought I’d take a moment or two to review another important pre-interview consideration that could make or break the results of your job interview. I’m speaking of Job Interview Preparation. What’s that? Most of us think that when it comes to a job interview, we gather up our resume and references, don our attractive clothing, put on our game face and assume we can present our own skills and know-how to the interviewer or interviewers. After all, they are our skills and know-how, if we can’t present them better than anyone else — who can? Right? Suprisingly enough, you’d be WRONG if you believed that. Having been involved in literally 1000’s of interviews over the course of my career, I can promise you that most Applicants cannot logically present their skills and accomplishments, let alone do it in a manner that moves the interview along to a positive conclusion. Oh sure, they can offer up a nice list of things to talk about, things they can do in their respective work environments, and make it sound good too. But for the most part, too often, they neglect the important news… like what you are going to do specifically for the employer with which you are interviewing now. Employers then have to cull through your materials, including what you have to say about yourself in the job interview, and your resume and your application, and the results from any required job assessments, and they have to patch together a pattern of know-how, job experience and goals that will hopefully fit the needs for which they are interviewing. So in preparing for a job interview, you should strive to organize how you will present your credentials and achievments and skills so it proceeds logically and fulfills the requirements of the job — not just so you can rattle on about what you know and what you’ve done and what you hope to do. My best advice is to make a list of your skills, as they relate to the specific job you are interviewing for. List each of your areas of endeavor, your duties, you tasks. For instance, if you are a retail manager interviewing for a job in that industry, your list would include regular tasks like “customer service,” and “Vendor management,” and “cash control,” and “staff training,” and “store safety,” and a dozen other daily, weekly or monthly duties. A corporate buyer may have on their list: “price book management,” “bid processing,” “vendor price negotiations,” or “delivery logistics management,” and more. Each vocation has its own unique set of duties to list. Why list those duties? Because you are going to write an example for each of those duties to illustrate by example your mastery over the task in question. The examples you choose will be real-life examples whereby you solve problems within a range of tasks. For instance, the retail manager enters on their duties list the task of “cash control.” Then describes how they solved a problem of cash shortage on the evening shift by reassigning who worked which cash register, and by taking register readings multiple times during a shift and reviewing results with each employee, thereby identifingthe cause of the shortage and thusly saving the store from suffering a significant loss. That illustrates to the prospective Employer, in a job interview, that you not only perform that duty, but you have real-life effective strategies to solve problems relating to that specific task. And you must address each of your key duties or tasks, because you don’t which tasks will be the most important to be discussed when you are at the interview. So you must be prepped on each. That is a much more effective way to present your skills in an interview.
